Right now, we all want to stay healthy and clean all the time, and in the midst of the pandemic, this became the concern of many and the business of others.
You've probably already seen some social media ads that promise to sanitize your home for a small fee. But do we really need someone in masks and a full-body suit to clean the house with "ozone" or "oxygen"?
The short answer is NO.
FIRST THINGS FIRST: WHAT DO I NEED TO ELIMINATE?
As you probably already know, COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-COV-2 virus. It is not a living organism and needs to infect human cells to continue existing.
Dr. Carlos Rius, an academic at the UNAM Faculty of Chemistry, has a very simple metaphor to understand it:
Imagine velcro. The virus is the fuzzy part, and ACE2 (an enzyme attached to the outer surface of cells in some organs of our body) is the spiky or hooked part. If you put the fuzzy part of the velcro on a smooth surface, nothing happens. But if it joins with the porous part, then yes, it's very difficult to pull it apart.
That's what happens with SARS-COV-2. If for some reason you touch a contaminated surface, nothing will happen…unless…somehow (stop touching your face) that virus reaches your nose, eyes, or mouth, where it can attach to an ACE2.
SO, SHOULD I HIRE A PROFESSIONAL SANITIZATION SERVICE FOR MY HOME OR OFFICE / BUSINESS?
It's not worth it.
Among all the things the pandemic brought us, there are a lot of companies and influencers promoting professional home sanitization, but the truth is: it's not necessary.
