Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a spiral-shaped bacterium found in the gastric mucosa or adhering to the epithelial layer of the stomach.

It is estimated that this bacterium causes over 90% of duodenal ulcers and more than 80% of gastric carcinomas.
